TRAINING IS THE FIRST STEP on an inspiring journey towards attaining the dream of entering a complex and exciting world of the entertainment industry.

THE ACTING CLASSES focus on developing each student’s capabilities for stage and screen by enhancing focus, characterisation, emotional integrity, self-awareness, body language and confidence, exploring and utilising their own physical, emotional and psychological resources as part of the creative process. Scripted monologues, duologues and group pieces are used for students to learn different styles of acting and the theories behind them along with improving response to direction, utilising stage space, articulation and projection. Improvised and devised performance is also practiced to improve spontaneity and teamwork. Students are trained in presentation and audition techniques to help prepare them for professional casting requirements for theatre, film and television.

THE SINGING CLASSES focus on a wide range of aspects essential to developing a strong, controlled and versatile voice. Posture is corrected and perfected, breath control & diaphragm support is anchored and tone is enhanced for a full timbre. Exercises designed to develop pitch, versatility, endurance, vibrato, riffing, diction, projection, contrast, tone and the five vocal registers are practiced, encouraging students to explore and expand their vocal boundaries whilst learning how to understand their voice and how to use it correctly and safely. Microphone technique is developed and students learn how to sing lyrics with truth by communicating character, sub-text and emotion with the concept of singing being an extension of acting. A wide selection of Musical Theatre repertoire is learnt and performed developing diction, phrasing, harmonies and focus in both solo and ensemble performance. Talent days are also held occasionally for students to sing songs of their choice & style to encourage individuality and diversity.

THE DANCE CLASSES complete the circle for Starlight’s versatile triple-threat performers. Each class commences with an intensive warm-up to prepare students for the physical demands required. Energy, enthusiasm and focus is essential to fully benefit from these dynamic adrenaline-driven sessions. Students learn to develop many styles of dance, focusing primarily on Street, Contemporary, Modern and Jazz for the mainstream industry and also learn to comprehend the techniques of Ballet and Tap. Technical development includes body conditioning, building stamina, flexibility, versatility, precision, poise and exploring & developing physical capabilities safely. Other aspects of the dance classes include Solo & group performance, improvisation, choreography & movement incorporating rhythm, focus, coordination, body language, self-awareness & control.
